What Canadian employers expect, modality by modality. This is a working summary, not legal advice — your provincial regulator has the final word.
BY MODALITY
MRI
Registration with your provincial regulator in MRI, or a cross-training path from another MRIT specialty. Siemens and GE experience are both in demand; overnight and weekend coverage pays a premium.
CT
Registration with your provincial regulator in radiography with CT experience or certification. Trauma and interventional exposure widen your options considerably. We also place interventional and angiography technologists.
SONOGRAPHY
Sonography Canada or ARDMS credentials, plus registration with your provincial regulator in diagnostic medical sonography. Generalist, vascular, cardiac, and MSK all recruit separately. We place general, vascular, cardiac (echo), obstetric and MSK sonographers.
RADIOGRAPHY
Registration with your provincial regulator in radiography. Community clinics value speed and patient flow; hospitals value trauma and portable experience. Combined laboratory and X-ray technicians (CLXTs) and bone densitometry (BMD) roles recruit here too.
MAMMOGRAPHY
Radiography registration plus mammography certification. Provincial breast screening program sites have additional volume requirements.
NUCLEAR MEDICINE
Registration with your provincial regulator in nuclear medicine. PET/CT experience is scarce across Canada and priced accordingly.
REGISTRATION BY PROVINCE
Pick your province or territory to see who regulates medical radiation technologists there and which breast screening program sets mammography requirements. Always confirm details with the organization itself.

Sonographers must register with CMRITO.

Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP)
National certification (CAMRT or Sonography Canada) is the usual starting point everywhere. Provincial rules can change, so check the regulator before you apply.
INTERNATIONALLY EDUCATED TECHNOLOGISTS
If you trained outside Canada, the sequence is usually: credential assessment, then the national certification exam for your modality, then provincial registration. We will tell you where you stand and which employers hire at each stage — including the ones that support you through the exam.
