AAIP streams with an Alberta job offer (check eligibility)
1. GET LICENSED
- ACMDTT is the only body that issues the practice permit needed to work in Alberta.
- ACMDTT assesses your education, transcripts and experience against Canadian standards.
- Language: meet ACMDTT's language proficiency policy (check the accepted tests and scores on its website).
- Pass the CAMRT exam for your discipline.
- A provisional practice permit may let you work under supervision while you prepare for the exam, if you have a job offer and College approval.
2. IMMIGRATION ROUTE
- The AAIP Dedicated Health Care Pathway does not currently list MRTs as an eligible profession, so check the official list before applying.
- Other AAIP streams, such as the Alberta Opportunity Stream or Alberta Express Entry, may apply with an Alberta job offer.
3. PAY
MRT wages in Alberta are among the most competitive in Canada (see the Alberta Occupational Wage and Salary Survey). Red Deer and Edmonton offer strong pay relative to living costs.
4. COST OF LIVING
No provincial sales tax. One-bedroom rent was about $1,290 in Edmonton and $1,590-1,630 in Calgary in late 2025, well below Toronto or Vancouver.
This guide is general information, not immigration or legal advice. Programs, fees and rules change often. Always confirm with the regulator and the official immigration program before you apply, or speak with a licensed immigration consultant (RCIC).
