WORKING IN ONTARIO.

Ontario has the largest demand for diagnostic imaging in Canada. You must be registered with CMRITO to practise, and the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) offers both job-offer and Express Entry routes.

1. GET LICENSED

  • Registration with CMRITO is mandatory; it is illegal to practise as an MRT in Ontario without it.
  • CMRITO assesses your international education. If it is substantially similar but not equivalent, you may need bridging courses before the CAMRT exam.
  • Bridging programs exist (CAMRT lists options), but intake changes; confirm availability directly with the school, for example the Michener Institute.

2. IMMIGRATION ROUTE

  • Ontario redesigned the OINP in 2026. Job-offer applicants now go through the new Ontario Workforce Priority stream, which still ranks candidates through an Expression of Interest. Employer requirements changed with the redesign, so confirm the current criteria on the official OINP page.
  • The old Human Capital Priorities health draws were replaced in the June 2026 regulation. Don't rely on past health draws as a current pathway.
  • A provincial nomination adds 600 Comprehensive Ranking System points in Express Entry.

3. PAY

Median MRT pay in Ontario is roughly $40-44 per hour, set largely by hospital collective agreements, so rates are similar in Sudbury and Toronto.

4. COST OF LIVING

Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo are expensive, mainly due to housing. Northern and smaller cities such as Sudbury pay the same provincial rates with much lower housing costs.

This guide is general information, not immigration or legal advice. Programs, fees and rules change often. Always confirm with the regulator and the official immigration program before you apply, or speak with a licensed immigration consultant (RCIC).
